Radiation Monitoring Devices, Inc. (RMD) is a successful research
company devoted to the development of new radiation sensor and
systems technologies for commercial, medical and government use.
Much of this research is performed under government and private
contracts and grants through programs like the Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) program. Since it's founding in 1974, RMD
has developed and introduced many innovative products to market.
To support our expanding scintillator research efforts RMD is seeking
a Crystal Growth Technician. The candidate will provide support in
crystal growth, processing and characterization of advanced scintillator
and semiconductor materials and devices.
- Responsibilities:

- Set up, operate and maintain crystal growth, vacuum,
processing and characterization equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain the inventory of quartz components, chemicals
and general lab supplies.
- Keep accurate records of experimental data.
- Load crystal growth ampoules in glovebox based on recipes
and seal with an oxy-propane torch.
- Saw and polish crystals and assemble scintillator packages.
- Perform routine physical characterization of crystals and assembled
scintillator packages.
- Attend weekly RMD technical symposiums.
- Qualifications:

- Trade school or high school education or relevant technical work
experience.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical maintenance is
highly desired.
- Machine shop experience is a major plus.
- Experience in crystal growth is desirable but not essential.
- Good record keeping and oral communications are required.
- Some working skills with glassblowing, gloveboxes and vacuum
equipment are a plus.
- Access to a vehicle is desired for occasional pickup and delivery of
research supplies from local vendors.
