We are currently growing our engineering department and in need of a Materials Development Engineer. Details of the position are as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement new processes for producing ultra-hard single crystals or polycrystals to meet market needs.
  • Develop and implement new processes for thin or thick coatings on exiting products.
  • Development efforts focused on growth, driving process cost reductions, product quality improvements, capacity increases, and EHS improvements.
  • Individuals in these positions are responsible for leading cross-functional project teams from process/product conception through commercial implementation.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE
  • Design, execution, and analysis of process development experiments and product performance trials; analysis of production data; technical support to manufacturing; process modeling; development and implementation of process control strategies; leading plant trials and process scale-up; identifying and adapting external process technologies; equipment trials; coordinating contract E&C activities; financial estimation; project planning and milestone tracking.
  • Projects may involve materials synthesis, functional material design and manufacture, powder and granular materials processing and separation, high-temperature/high-pressure processing and design, chemical etching and coating, and materials characterization.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D./M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other experimental physical science. Background in single crystal growth, materials synthesis, processing, and characterization of high-tech ceramic materials strongly preferred. Proven, strong, understanding of engineering fundamentals with solid conceptual and analytical skills. Relevant industry or R&D laboratory experience is also desired.
  • High-energy, self-starter who initiates and drives value-added projects to successful completion.
  • Highly motivated and quick learner.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
