Conference Facilities

Technical sessions and programs will be held in the second floor meeting and conference facility at Bally's Park Place Hotel & Casino, Park Place and Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ (not to be confused with Bally's Grand, site of previous Eastern Regional Conferences).

Transportation

Atlantic City is easily reached by car via the Garden State Parkway to the Atlantic City Expressway. Air service to Atlantic City is available via the major east coast hubs or travelers may fly into Philadelphia and take ground transportation.

Conference Registration

All attendees are strongly encouraged to pre-register for this conference using the attached Conference Registration Form. Advance registration will be accepted until September 1, 1997 and the Registration Fixed Fee will include the Welcome Social as well as lunch Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Lunches will be lavish, and the conference lunch format will provide continuity as well as an opportunity for personal technical exchange. Beyond September 1, lunches CANNOT be included as part of the registration package.

A registration desk will be maintained on the second floor of Bally's from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Sunday, September 28 and beginning 7:30 am Monday through Wednesday, September 29 to October 1. Registrants will receive the technical program abstracts, continental breakfasts, lunches (advance registrants only), coffee breaks and conference materials.

Refreshments will be provided daily in the Vendor Information Center, where conferees may interact with suppliers of materials, apparatus and services to the crystal growth community, or just relax after the day's technical sessions.

Accommodations

A block of rooms has been reserved at Bally's Park Place Hotel & Casino at a special conference rate of $95/day in the main hotel and $120/day in the tower, single or double occupancy (plus tax and $2 tourism fee). There is a $15/day charge for each additional person (adult or child). Parking is an additional $2/day, which goes to the state. Amenities offered by Bally's to registered guests include use of hotel pool and wet spa.

Individuals are responsible for their own hotel reservations. Accommodations at the conference rate are limited, and early hotel reservations are required to ensure space at the hotel. DO NOT DELAY!

Reservations can be made by calling Bally's directly at 1-800-225-5977 and identifying yourself with the conference. The block of rooms will be held until August 20, 1997. Room availability and the confer- ence rates cannot be guaranteed after this date!

Student Awards & Financial Assistance

Students are encouraged to take an active part in this conference. A minimum of $1000 in scholarship funds will be awarded to the best student paper(s)— additional awards will be made based on the number of student papers. Students submitting papers should identify themselves as such and will receive complimentary banquet tickets to enable them to attend the awards ceremony. Students are invited to take advantage of the reduced Registration Fee and to share rooms at Bally's. A limited number of grants for travel costs ONLY will be available for students presenting papers. Requests for student grants should be submitted with abstracts to the Program Chair, E. Wayne O’Dell.

Sunday Evening Welcome Social

An informal welcome social for all conferees and their guests will be hosted by the Conference Sunday evening, September 28, 6:30 pm. This will be a great time to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.

Conference Dinner

A conference dinner will be held on the evening of Tuesday, September 30 starting with a reception at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $40 per person. Reservations can be assured only during the early registration period (until September 1) by checking the appropriate space on the conference registration form. Following dinner, Michael Bergman of Harvard University and Simons Rock College will speak on “Crystal Growth: From the Laboratory into the Earth’s Core.”

To register for the Conference this form must be received with accompanying check for the Registration Fee by SEPTEMBER 1, 1997. The Advance Program will be distributed in July.

Attendees are urged to join the AACG by remitting $35 to the American Association for Crystal Growth, P. O. Box 3233, Thousand Oaks, CA 91359. Membership in a local section of the AACG is NOT sufficient to obtain the reduced registration fee for this conference. Non- members may apply $35 of their registration fee toward AACG membership at no additional charge by checking the appropriate box below.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION DOES NOT INCLUDE HOTEL RESERVATIONS. Hotel reservations must be made BEFORE AUGUST 20, 1997 by calling Bally's Park Place Hotel at 1-800-225-5977.
