Summary: Conducts research and analyzes processing procedures and
equipment functions to identify and resolve problems in synthesis,
fabrication, crystal growing and detector testing of Mercuric Iodide
semiconductor materials by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
- Develops research plan, designs experiments, outlines research
procedures to be followed, and executes experiments.
- Performs routine to complex, experimental procedures related to
Mercuric Iodide crystal growth.
- Creates standards and specifications for processes, facilities,
product, and tests used in transitioning detector technologies to
a commercial venue.
- Adjusts furnace controls to alter crystal growth to meet
company specifications.
- Observes furnace operation and crystal growth and reads logbook
entries to identify deviations from specifications and procedures.
- Logs crystal growth observations and analyzes data in effort to
define trends that will lead to increased yields of grown material.
- Performs Mercuric Iodide detector tests in the way of special
test procedure and provides data analysis of test results correlated
to material process and crystal growth experiments.
- Provides technical support to material purification and
detector fabrication efforts, as needed.
- Assists in the preparation of technical reports for management
and funding agencies.
- Inspects furnaces for leaks, diagnoses equipment malfunctions,
and requests equipment repairs.
- Confers with scientists and engineers regarding research in
supporting technical papers and reports.
- Sets up and operates furnaces.
- Maintains working knowledge of new development in the
industry.
