Director Furnace Design Technology

Job Description

Leads all aspects of the design and development of electro/mechanical industrial heat-treating furnaces used in material processing for crystal growing in an Argon atmosphere. Provides guidance cross-functionally on the inspection, testing, startup, safety and repair of GT DSS furnaces.

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Design and develop new equipment and modifications to legacy equipment.
  • Knowledge of high voltage, high temperature output furnaces.
  • Drives Intellectual Property initiatives and patent processes for Furnace line of products.
  • Sets up and conducts tests of completed furnaces and/or related mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components and systems under operational conditions.
  • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design specifications, test objectives, and local environment protection regulations.
  • Discusses work assignments with Field Service representatives to ensure safety, upgrades and design modifications.
  • Reviews Reports from the field for modifications and improvements for next generation product lines.
  • Works with Field Service as final point of escalation to resolve installation, startup, safety or repair issues.
  • Stays abreast of market and technical innovations as they relate to furnace design technology, features and enhancements.
  • Interfaces with Product management on customer & market requirements for furnace technology.
  • Maintains and prepares written reports, manuals, blueprints, schematic drawings and other communications as requested.
  • Consults with Engineering department and Field Service about issues involving equipment performance, customer satisfaction, and suggestions for product design improvements.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Experience in design, design setup, of mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic and combustion systems is required.
  • Knowledge of PLCs preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the design, development and functionality of high temperature furnaces is required.
  • Experience with structural and functional characteristics of industrial heat-treating furnaces.
  • Demonstrated experience in patenting of furnace technology, preferably as a key contributor or holder of furnace technology patents.
  • Ability to present and convey technical knowledge in a manner appropriate to diverse audiences ranging from technical personnel, management and board level stakeholders and industry analysts.
  • 15+ years experience.
  • Supervisory skills required.
  • An M.S. Degree in M.E. or E.E. or higher is preferred.
  • Availability for international travel is required.

Compensation Package

  • Base - $130,000 - $160,000 commensurate with experience
  • Target Incentive – 15% of Base Salary (Upside to 3x Target)
  • Relocation Package – Up to 50K
